The Humane Society recommended obedience training which was the best decision we could of made! Glen is wonderful with the dogs and really helps us tackle any problem areas we are having!

Mariana R.

I took in a tremendous amount of knowledge from you today and I am very grateful for every moment. Thanks to you, Mikey now has his forever home and we will all work towards a happy life together.

I am so glad I decided to take the class with my new dog. Gomez ran out of the house the day after we learned “here”. I immediately put into play the command and he ran right back to me!

Dog Training Services

Private Dog Training Sessions

If your dog has a behavior that concerns you, or if you prefer training that is tailored specifically to your dog, private training is for you. Private dog training sessions are held in your home. During the initial consultation and training session, we discuss what you want to achieve from the training, your dog’s lifestyle, and challenges. From that, we develop a training plan to accomplish your objectives. This plan may include additional private training sessions, sessions held at other locations, Socialization using Shelter Dog Playgroups, and dog training classes.  Issues we have helped clients with include getting along with another pet, walking nicely on leash, acclimating to a new home, improving a dog’s focus to the owner, and dealing with things that are scary for the dog.

Group Dog Training Classes

If you want your dog to learn the basic behaviors in a group setting, dog training classes are for you. Dog training classes are held in the training yard at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. The location of the training yard offers a rare and unique setting where you learn to help your dog deal with unexpected distractions.

Foundation Skills Level 1 covers the basic skills that every dog should know. These include Sit, Stay, Come When Called, and Down. During every class we work on loose leash walking skills around the training yard.

Foundation Skills Level 2 adds Heel into the walking program, and Leave It and Drop It. Much of Level 2 class centers on loose leash walking and scenarios that builds your dog’s focus on you and not the distractions of the real world.

Foundation Skills Level 3 continues to strengthen Coming When Called and Stay with Distance. We continue our walking exercises by approaching strangers and people with dogs. Throughout each class we continue to strengthen skills learned in previous classes.

Each Foundation Skills Class is four-weeks long, one-hour per week. These classes are designed to prepare you and your dog for the AKC Canine Good Citizen® (CGC) evaluation.  Even if you have no interest in obtaining the CGC certification, these are important foundation skills for a dog owner and their dog to know!

Each four-week class is $95. If your dog was adopted from the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, then you get a $10 discount, $85. We donate a portion of the class fee back to the Humane Society.

Company Training

If your company has service personnel who go into residences, this workshop is for you.
According to the American Pet Products Association, 44% of households in America own a dog. That roughly means that every other time a service person goes into a home, they are going to encounter a dog that does not know them. This workshop uses presentations, videos, exercises and discussions to explain what a dog is telling us through their body language, and what they think we are telling them with our body language. Your clients will love you even more if their dogs like your employees! For more information, give us a call.

If you have received a citation from Hillsborough County, please email a readable copy of the citation(s) to [email protected]  Typically, four to six private dog training sessions are needed to satisfy the requirements of court-ordered dog training.
