When I was five, my family got a dog that we named Chips. Over the next few years, he bit me 15 times. I deserved every bite. Even two neighbor dogs bit me, but it didn’t matter. I loved dogs. I have had nine more dogs since Chips, and more than 30 foster dogs.
I always liked the way trainers with a CPDT certification approached problems. Although it is not required to be a dog trainer, I received my Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) certification from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers in 2015. The next year, I became the first trainer (and still the only) in Hillsborough County FL to earn the Knowledge and Skills Assessed certification (CPDT-KSA). I have over 4,000 hours of training experience, have worked with more than 3,000 dogs, and I do it all for Chips.
My days now start with running the shelter dog playgroup program at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. Every day, I work with happy dogs, scared dogs, playful dogs, and dogs that have no manners at all. I want to find ways to help the dog be comfortable in that environment, whether it’s the shelter or a home.
But enough about me… I want to talk about you. What is the biggest problem you are having with your dog?
The Humane Society recommended obedience training which was the best decision we could of made! Glen is wonderful with the dogs and really helps us tackle any problem areas we are having!
I took in a tremendous amount of knowledge from you today and I am very grateful for every moment. Thanks to you, Mikey now has his forever home and we will all work towards a happy life together.
I am so glad I decided to take the class with my new dog. Gomez ran out of the house the day after we learned “here”. I immediately put into play the command and he ran right back to me!
